Just 48 Hours after their epic cup semi final win, YM's second string were back in action in a vital league encounter with high flying Wokingham and Emmbrook B. The satsumas B side were sat in second place prior to kick off and it was winner takes all, in terms of the league and promotion. Stand in boss Mark Lemm kept faith with all bar 2 of Saturdays team with hero Steve Woodrow taking a well earned rest and Dave Morrison coming back in to the side.
The game got off to a frantic start with both teams flying in to tackles and making the most of the excellent Wokingham pitch to try and play some football. YM quickly got in to their rhythm and Dave Morrison was proving the thorn in the home side with some excellent play down the left, twisting and turning to play provider for Kasonde and Rolfe to go close. Morrison nearly opened the scoring on 20 minutes when a corss flashed past everyone and hit the striker, cannoning off the bar and away to safety. The home side were enjoying limited possession but the rapid left winging always posed a threat with pace to burn but little end product. Kasonde and Morrison both wasted good chances when through on goal and it seemed it may well be one of those days.
The deadlock was broken on 25 minutes when a perfectly timed Dave Rolfe tackle was adjudged to be a foul and a Wokingham player floated a beautiful free kick over Jamie Froud and in to the top corner against the run of play. YM have been guilty of wasting chances in recent weeks so it wa a relief when Kasonde bundled the ball home on 30 minutes to level the scores and put YM back in the driving seat. The key goal came on 35 minutes when Sidwell took the ball down and unleashed an unstopable rasper past the hapless home keeper to put YM firmly on the front foot going in the break.
The second period started with the home side looking for a way back in to the game but Rolfe, Ilsley and Sidwell were in no mood to let anything past and mopped up anything that came via the ariel route, with Darren Cornell, Chris Leach and Sean Kenny taking care of the rest. As the game wore on it always YM who likely to make it 3 on the break. Lewis Evans was making big impressions down the left and the ever willing Adam Cayzer getting forward at every opportunity, so it came as no surprise when the latter combined with Morrison to set Kasonde away, who rounded the keeper with ease and slotted in to make it 3-1. The home side had a couple of half chances but found Froud in fine form and Sidwell capped a great team performace nodding in at the far post from a Woodrow corner to clinch the points. Special mention must go to Mark Lemm who ran a tight ship in O Boyles absense and make a fantastic 10 minute cameo heading it once and making a crucial last ditch block on the half way line. ;-)
