Westwood Utd 3 Reading YMCA 2
Johnny Adey

Reading YMCA slipped to a 2nd consecutive defeat but a depleted side put in a much better performance and were unlucky not to earn at least a draw.

With the injury and absentee list growing ever longer, YM were forced to cancel the Rapids fixture to ensure the 1st team could field a side and manager Mark Lemm had to make a rare appearance on pitch.

YM started the game well although were clearly short of confidence after a poor recent run.  Luke Kasonde and Johnny Adey both went close before, against the run of play, a deep Ben Dunk cross was headed in by Ryan Kingsbeer for the Westwood opener.  YM got a deserved equalizer soon after when MOM Adey squared for Mark Mabbett to slot home with the aid of a deflection.

Shortly afterwards Adey had a great chance to take the lead but blazed over.

Westwood then took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Ashley Baynham beat the YM offside trap to round keeper Jonny Phillips and tap in.

The 2nd half was a turgid affair until Adam Kingsbeer provided a rare spark by lashing home a 30 yard thunderbolt.

The last 20 minutes were end to end with Westwood having a shot cleared off the line before Adey pulled a goal back after good work from debutant Omori Edwards-Holmes. Nader Edmunds and Adey both had clear cut opportunities in the closing minutes but Westwood held on for the 3 points.
