Reading YMCA 3 Unity 2
Jammer

A 10 minute goal spree was enough to earn Reading YMCA 3 points against a Unity side who had dominated the game for a long spell.

The 1st half was virtually 1-way traffic with Unity forcing the game with their fluid style with YM were disjointed and off the pace.  Unity's wide men Mashelle and Mussaquoi were a constant threat whilst Shane Gibson was a strong focal point for their attacks but despite finding themselves in several promising positions they could not put the finishing touches to some excellent approach play.

YM's defence marshalled by Tristam Dennis was holding out reasonably well and restricted their opponents to few opportunities.  Right back James Atkinson in particularly was outstanding making several last ditch challenges and clearances.

YM's cause was not helped when they lost Drew Tipper to a nasty head injury but new recruit David Payne stepped in to make his debut in midfield.

Unity hit the cross bar but it seemed as though YM would go into the break on equal terms before Mussaquoi nicked the ball from YM's Chris Lemm before hitting a rocket like shot into the top corner - a stunning effort.

YM began the 2nd half well and were looking considerably more organised and cohesive.  YM's Payne and Jamie Froude began to get more of the ball and the trickery of Martin Abery and Chris Farrelly was beginning to cause problems.  YM got a deserved equalizer when Farrelly picked out Adam Cayzer at the far post after a swift YM break.  Cayzer pulled the ball down before drilling in a pin point left foot shot.

Abery then gave YM the lead shortly afterwards when another incisive more saw Farrelly again provide the final ball for Abery to tuck home.

YM were now on top and completed their 10-minute blitz when Abery played in Payne who kept his cool to sidefoot into the net.

YM could have had several more in the final 20 minutes but Unity's threat persisted and they grabbed a goal just before the final whistle when Micah Oboh picked out Gibson to tap in.

Reading YMCA Rapids 2 Sandhurst Devels Res 1
Cass

YM second string battled to make in 2 wins from 2 at the weekend with a well deserved win over Sandhurst Devels Res. Bosses Steve Woodrow and Mark Ilsley made one change to the previous week with Mandeep Nangla coming in for the injured Alan Ilsley.

The game started at a frenetic pace and with the rain lashing down neither side really got a foothold in the game. Sandhurst were steady at the back and controlled the midfield during the opening stages but it was Dave Simmonds who broke away and burst in to the box, tucking away a neat finish to put YM 1 to the good.

The second period started with YM pushing for a second but were soon pegged back and Adam Cassidy made some outstanding challenges to keep YM in front. It was a breakaway match with the away side controlling possession but YM looking dangerous on the break. First up to hit the woodwork was Sidwell who smashed an effort from 25 yards against the post. The Nangla curled a beautiful effort on the crossbar and Simmonds made it a hat trick of close calls after hitting the post. Steve Daly missed a glaring opportunity to seal the game when Sidwell's trickery left him 1 on 1 witht he keeper but the usually relaible trickster blazed over from 6 yards.

The magic goal came with 10 minutes left as new signing Phil Mortimer drilled in a low drive to put YM 2 up. There was a slight scare with 5 mins left as Chris Leach put through his own net but YM held on to make it 6 points from 6.
