Frilsham and Yattendon 2 Reading YMCA 1
Johnny Adey

Reading YMCA's unbeaten run came to an end with a frustrating 2-1 defeat at strugglers Frilsham & Yattendon.

YM manager Mark Lemm was able to field his strongest side for several weeks with only Adam Cayzer, Sam Jennings and Drew Tipper missing and the opening exchanges looked good for YM as they moved the ball around well in difficult conditions.  A superb 40 yard ball found Leon Mannion and he outpaced the Frilsham defence to leave him 1-on-1 with Frilsham keeper Damo Scurr who did well to save.

Scurr was also on hand to thwart Johnny Adey whilst Luke Kasonde and Mannion also went close.

But Frilsham weathered the storm and for the final 20 minutes of the half were the better team, twice going close from set pieces.

The game changed dramatically at the start of the half with Frilsham hitting 2 quick goals.  YM replied within 5 minutes when a weal Scurr clearance was hit into the net by Adey.

The final 30 minutes was pulsating with YM camped in the Frilsham half and pounding their goal with a combination of heroic defending and poor finishing preventing the equalizer.  YM spurned no less than six 1-on-1s in this period.  At the same time, Frilsham were hitting YM on the break and the YM defence were often outnumbered and had to ride their luck at times.

It was a disappointing result for the Young Men who played well with no shortage of effort but again gave 2 goals away in quick succession and failed to take their chances.
