Twyford & Ruscombe 1 Reading YMCA Rapids 4 - PROMOTION!
Mark Ilsley - looks like Alan

Reading YMCA Rapids made it 3 promotions in a row with a comfortable 4-1 win away to Twyford. With 3 moving up from division 2, the 3 points means a guarenteed place in division 1 with the title and 2 cups still to play for. The Rapids need to take 4 points from the last 2 league games to secure the league but attentions now turn to the Berks and Buck cup final this Saturday at Newport Pagnell.

The game started at a steady pace with both sides battling in midfield for possession and the first half chance came when Sidwell set Kasonde away down the right but the defender got back and snuffed out the danger. Ryan Tipper was enjoying a commanding opening in the heart of the YM midfield but the star of the show was the returning Alan Ilsley. The big man was holding up the ball well and bringing the wide men in to the game and was unlucky not to open the scoring when his effort was ruled out for offside on 15 minutes. The opening goal came just 5 minutes later when a deep Froud corner was fed back in to the box by Sidwell where Rolfe was on hand to tap home from 5 yards. YM soon made it 2 when Ilsley got the goal he deserved after some great work by Woodrow and Kasonde down the left. Dave Rolfe was enjoying afine game at the back and the 3rd goal came when he calmly waltzed out of defence and fed Sidwell who set Kasonde away and the YM hitman made no mistake.

The second period started with Twyford on the front foot and a single defensive lapse let the front man in to make it 3-1 and start to make thing uncomfortable for YM. A couple of wasted chances later and the YM passing game had started to unravel with the rain adding to a slippery surface. Mortimer made a smart save down to his right and then tipped over a rasper as YM were under the cosh. Twyford were always succeptable to the counter attack and Sidwell nearly lashed home from 25 yards before feeding Ilsley who's back heel nearly made its target, but the decisive goal came on 70 minutes when Ilsley finished off a fine move to put the game to bed.

Boss O Boyle said: 'This was a massive game for us, our 4th in a week, but we showed the class that has seen us get promotion and hopefully we can now go on to win some silverwear.
