Reading YMCA made it 12 goals in 2 games as they cruised to an emphatic 7-0 win over Taplow Utd.

Taplow had made a good start to the season with 3 wins from their first 4 games but after a competing well in the 1st half they faded badly in the second period with YM racking up 4 goals in the final 20 minutes.

The Young Men were forced to make 2 changes from the side that beat Berks CS the previous week with Andy Bullett coming in to replace the absent Nader Edmunds and manager Mark Lemm donning the keeper's gloves in place of Scott Hodgetts.

The signs looked ominous for Taplow right from the start with YM storming out of the blocks and looking quicker and sharper than their opponents.  After some promising attacks, YM soon made the breakthrough when Jason Wagner drilled a corner into the near post which Johnny Adey met with a diving header.

Taplow were rocked and things got worse for them when YM pressure forced them to give the ball away in a dangerous area allowing Adey to pick the ball up and square for Martin Abery to slide the ball into the net.

Adey was causing havoc on the right flank whilst the pinpoint passing of Wagner was carving Taplow open at will.  But Taplow held firm and began to enjoy their best spell of the match as they pushed YM on to the backfoot.  A succession of corners and long throws were causing problems and they really should have pulled a goal back when Lemm flapped at a cross only for the Taplow striker to blaze over the bar.

With the score remaining at 2-0 going into the break there was a feeling that the next goal was crucial with Taplow still well in the game.

But it was YM who claimed the next goal when a goalmouth scramble fell to Drew Tipper to claim his 4th goal in 2 games.

The goal knocked the stuffling out of Taplow and also sparked a flurry of substitutions for the home side with Rob Lee, James Atkinson and Nick Seymour all introduced into the game. Rather than upset YM's rhythm, the changes only spurred them to increase the pressure and Lee made it 4-0 when he tapped in another superb cross from star man Johnny Adey.

With Taplow now out of their feet, YM rattled in 3 more goals.  First, great work from Lee ended with him finding Adey in a central position where he cooly lobbed the ball over advancing keeper Josh Boggi.  Bullett then scored the goal of the match when he picked the ball up outside the box and ran on before hitting a sweet shot into the bottom corner.  Adam Cayzer then rounded off the scoring when he latched on to Seymour's header to guide the ball into the net.

It could have been even worse for the visitors but striker Sam Jennings could not finish off two 1-on-1 opportunities in the closing minutes.

Boss Lemm said "We knew we had to be on it today as Taplow had made a good start to the season and the 2 early goals gave us an excellent platform which we built on during the 2nd half.  We're playing some good stuff at the moment, working hard for each other and the team is beginning to understand how I want them to play this year.

We've got a break from league action next week in the Berks & Bucks and that will give me an opportunity to juggle the squad a bit and have a look at a couple of other players."

Despite a strong line up YM went into this game knowing it was likely to be the toughest league fixture in their short history and Wrightchoice did not disappoint.

YM got off to a good start enjoying good possession and competing well off the ball.

The return of Rob Taylor in goal gave the back four confidence with the centre back pairing of Ilsey and Cass looking determined not to give the Wrightchoice strikers a sniff.

With the ever angry kenny and improving leach at fullback the YM back four proved a stubborn obstacle with Taylor not requiring to make a save in the first half.

Having nearly had his shirt torn off his back in an aerial challenge with Philip Johns Daz Cornell dusted himself off and replied with an awesome display in the middle to keep the competitive Johns quiet all game.

In the engine room with him Froude continued to look impressive with a great range of passing. A wide ball to Steve Daly led to YMs closest chance when his cross hit the inside of the post and dropped agonisingly away from the prowling Morrison.

The only other chance of the half fell to Kassonda who tried to latch onto a loose ball which the goalie came charging out to for it to be missed by both players and rolling harmlessly behind for a goal kick.

A recurring hamstring problem led to the withdrawal of Woodrow at half time to be replaced by Tim Sidwell who added an aerial threat and linked up play well with the front two.

The second half was much of the same with Wrightchoice restricted to only long range efforts.

YM undoubtedly had the better of the chances two of which fell to Kassonda who was unlucky not to get on the teamsheet. The outstanding Adam Cassidy raked a 50 yard pass straight on to Sidwell's head but the former YM skipper could only gift his effort to the Wrightchoice keeper.

Having run his legs into the ground Morrison was replaced on 80mins by Sutton making his first league appearance of the season having recovered from an ankle injury.

Despite on or two half chances for both sides in the final minutes a draw seemed the most likely result.

YM boss O'Boyle "I was really pleased with our performance today, defensively we looked solid and were always dangerous on the break. This was a strong Wrightchoice side that will be competing for the title this season. We have Wrightchoice again in two weeks time and we look forward to that. In the meantime we play Hurst res again on Saturday who will be looking to avenge our 6.4 victory on the opening day of the season".
