Reading YMCA stretched their unbeaten run to 4 games after a straightforward 5-0 win over surprise strugglers Sandhurst Devels.
YM welcomed back Jason Wagner, Scott Allen, Chris Lemm and Sam Jennings although they were without Tristam Dennis whilst Martin Abery and Danny Fitzpatrick remain on the injury list. Sandhurst were missing a number of players as has been the story of their season and with their confidence at a low they faced an uphill task.
The early exchanges were even with the Sandhurst striker blazing the best chance of the opening period over the bar. YM quickly began to exert control and top scorer Johnny Adey opened the scoring when a superb individual run saw him ghost past 4 players before slotting past keeper Craig Wilkins. Adey doubled his tally soon after and the omens were ominous for Sandhurst with YM now rampant.
Several excellent chances were spurned before Drew Tipper hit the cross-bar but the score remained 2-0 at half-time.
Sandhurst started the 2nd half well and were the better side for the first 20 minutes with dangerous Joe Samuel pushed up top along with Craig Baker and Mark Farrell. Samuel had a good chance to pull a goal back when clean through but keeper Chris Rackley made a comfortable save.
Had Devels notched a goal during this period the game could well have been different but instead it was YM who extended their lead when Wagner raced on to a loose ball to drill in from 20 yards with his left foot. The game was effectively over 2 minutes later when a Sandhurst player was sent off for a second bookable offence. Sandhurst refused to quit though and Rackley was forced to make two excellent saves to preserve YM's clean sheet.
Sandhurst were pushing men forwards though and YM could have had a hatful of goals only for a host of opportunities to be wasted. But sub Rob Lee did manage to score his first of the season when he expertly hit a curling shot into the top corner and then Lee turned provider to square the ball for fellow sub David Payne to slot home.
Ex-YM man Dean Williams spurned an excellent chance to pull a goal back but it summed up Devels bad luck when he screwed the ball wide.
YM moved up to 3rd as a result of the win whilst Sandhurst will move back up the table once they can get a full squad out as they are clearly in a false position.
