Reading YMCA progressed into the 3rd of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup and a tie at home to Childrey Utd after a straightforward victory over North Bucks side Loughton Manor.

After a 90 minute journey to get to the venue YM looked leg weary in the early stages but gradually got into their stride and took the lead when Johnny Adey headed home an excellent Jason Wagner free-kick.  Drew Tipper then scored the goal of the game when some neat football ended with Tipper clipping a superb shot into the far corner.

Loughton were competitive but lacked a cutting edge although they had a good chance to equalise when a cross found an unmarked player at the back post who could only blaze over.

Tipper and Adey both spurned one-on-ones as YM threatened to run riot but the score remained at 2-0 at half-time.

The pattern continued in the 2nd half with Luke Kasonde and Naz Edmunds both adding to the goal tally although in truth it could easily have been double figures as YM created a chance with virually every attack.

This was YM's 3rd win on the bounce and with players returning from injury there are good signs for the Young Men although they will face stiffer challenges in the coming weeks starting with an away trip to Theale.

Reading YMCA Rapids 4 Theale Res 3
Sidders

YM Rapids staged a remarkable comeback from 3-1 to snatch all 3 points against a resolute Theale side.

The game got off to a frantic start with YM making the worst possible start, going 1 down after a defensive mix up. Some slack play in midfield then giften Theale a 2nd after form YM man Christ Vaughan lashed an unstoppable shot past James Phillips. Boss Tim Sidwell unleashed the hairdryer treatment at half time after his side could barely string 2 passes together, looking nothing like the title winning side from last season.

The second period was much better with an OG allowing the Rapids back in to the game. Theale extended their lead on 60 mins when another defensive lapse allowed the away striker in to slot home and the game looked dead and buried. YM finally sparked in to life when Sam Jennings rounded the keeper to make it 3-2. Sidwell took the bull by the horns and grabbed an unlikey equaliser after a Theale defender tried to shepherd the ball out but an outstreched foot guided the ball goalwards to make it all square. With only 1 team looking for the win it was left to Darren Cornell to seal the points, smashing home from a tight angle to seal the points.
