YM's second string are currently embarking on a fantastic run of form winning their last 4 matches to march up to 2nd in the table. Joint bosses Mark Ilsley and Steve Woodrow had a mixed start to the season but now have a settled side and are playing some great football. The run started at table topping REME who had only lost once all season but a Dan Sutton goal and some supurb rear guard action meant the Rapids came away with 3 points.
Next up, the usually tough SRCC were put to the sword after a devastating first half spell put the young men 3-0 up, effectively ending the game, with Simmonds, Payne and Nangla getting the decisive goals.
Another tough away trip beckoned at Sandhurst Devels but the Rapids came through the encouter 2-1 winners, with Woodrow and Sutton getting the goals lifting the side to 2nd in the table.
The run continued this weekend with an excellent team performance and 3-1 win over Ashridge Park. The ever improving Phil Mortimer grabbing a brace with Alan Ilsley getting the 3rd. That win puts YM on 22 points, 6 behind leaders REME, but being the form team and a 6 pointer to come in 2 weeks the Rapids are looking very strong to mount a serious challenge on the title.
Mark Ilsley said 'We are playing some good stuff at the moment and are looking solid at the back. We dont have a massive squad but its a close knit bunch of players and its the same faces every week which makes a huge difference when trying to get a settled side. Special mention must be made for Chris Leach, who this week broke a club record held by Mark Lemm with his 52nd consecutive YM appearance'
Chris Leach - This week broke the consecutive appearances record, but fell asleep whilst being interviewed about his achievement.
